The opening marks the end of an era for the Treasure Chest’s nearby riverboat casino, which will stop taking bets at 11:59 p.m on Saturday, June 1.

The new land-based facility features a 48,000-square-foot gambling hall — twice the size of its water-based counterpart — and over 8,000 square feet of convention space, alongside four new restaurants. It cost around $100 million to construct.

Owned by Nevada-based Boyd Gaming Corp., the Treasure Chest opened in a replica riverboat on Lake Pontchartrain in Kenner in 1994, with one restaurant and no convention space.
